Try a lookup with your key in the browser before you write any code.

Plan: Death Verification API · For: Developers · Time: 3 min read

The Test Console sends a real POST /api/v1/verify request with your key, so you can see results before you connect your systems.

Run a lookup

  1. In the sidebar, select Test Console.
  2. Paste your API key (callout 1). If you don't have one, select create one in API Keys.
  3. Enter the person's First name and Last name, plus the other details you have, such as birth year, middle name, and location (callout 2). The more you send, the more precise the result.
  4. Choose a search depth. For checks on people who are probably living, pick Recent. For suspected deaths, leave it on Auto.
  5. Send the request and read the result.
  6. Use How to read results on the right to interpret it (callout 3).

Good to know

  • A lookup with a Live key is a real lookup. It searches live data and counts toward your usage.
  • A Test key returns sample responses: last names starting with A–H return found, I–P return possible_match, and the rest return not_found. This lets you test each path in your code.
  • Usage is counted on the account that owns the key.
